EPL: 5 Decisions That VAR Got Wrong In Week One EPL Games

The 2022/2023 English Premier League campaign started with some wrong decisions from the VAR and it has caused several reactions from fans.

It was an entertaining week one games in the Premier League and the biggest surprise was the Manchester United defeat to Brighton Albion at Old Trafford Stadium and Fulham's 2-2 draw to Liverpool.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City are the only top 5 teams that recorded victory.

The VAR took some wrong decisions in the week one games and we will be analyzing it one after the other.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

Arsenal continued their winning form after defeating Palace by 2-0. It was an entertaining match between the two teams but the Gunners were more convincing in front of goal.

Martinelli and an own goal from Guehi gave Arsenal the total 3 points in the game. Fulham were unlucky not to have gotten a penalty in the first half

The VAR was wrong not to have awarded a penalty to Crystal Palace despite having a clear view of the handball by Gabriel.

Manchester United Offside Goal

Manchester United goal should have been canceled because Maguire was in an offside position. According to the rules of the game, if a goal keeper is ahead of his opponent, automatically the player is an offside position.

The VAR refused to cancel the goal despite the clear view of Maguire's offside position.

McTominay Tackle

Manchester United midfielder McTominay should have been sent off in the first half of the game because of the dangerous tackle on Brighton's player. The Referee gave him a yellow card and the VAR refused to review the incident for a possible Red card offense.

Welbeck's Penalty Claim

Brighton Albion should have been awarded a penalty in the second half of the game after Martinez brought down Welbeck in the box.

The VAR refused to award the penalty to Brighton despite having a clear view of the incident.

Fulham Penalty Against Liverpool

The VAR should have canceled the Referee's penalty decision against Liverpool. From the review of the incident, there was no contact between Van Dijk and Mitrovic but the Referee pointed straight to the penalty spot.

Do you think the VAR decisions in Manchester United and Brighton games were biased?
