it will be impossible to replace him - Former Manager says

Christian Eriksen will be "impossible" to replace at Brentford, says Frank

Thomas Frank believes it will be “impossible” for Brentford to replace Christian Eriksen following the Dane’s move to Manchester United.

The 30-year-old playmaker opted to sign for the Red Devils on a three-year deal over extending his stay with the Bees.

The former Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan midfielder proved the catalyst in Brentford steering clear of the relegation zone last season.

Prior to Eriksen’s first start for Brentford following his move on 31 January, the newly-promoted side had picked up 24 points from 27 games.

From the ten games Eriksen started, Frank’s side accrued 22 points from a possible 30. Before Eriksen made his first start for the west Londoners, the Bees were one point above the relegation zone.

But with one goal and four assists from his 11 appearances for the club, the 115-time Denmark international played an influential part in helping Brentford finish a comfortable 11 points above the relegation zone.

Ahead of their second season in the top-flight, Frank has spoken about the impact losing his compatriot will have on his Bees side.

He told the Mail: “I would have loved him to stay. He brought a lot of quality to us.

“We can’t replace that, it’s impossible to replace Eriksen’s quality.”

Erik ten Hag’s snapped up Eriksen following the conclusion of his short-term deal at the Brentford Community Stadium.

United’s new number 14 scored a free-kick in his unofficial debut against Wrexham, which was a behind-closed-doors friendly played at Carrington on Wednesday.

The midfield maestro came off the bench to play the last 20 minutes of yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Eriksen showcased his range of passing and the qualities he will add to United’s side from set-pieces, and the Dane took to Instagram to share his delight in playing in front of the United fans for the first time.

Ahead of next Sunday’s Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion, Ten Hag could give the former Brentford ace further minutes against Rayo Vallecano at the Theatre of Dreams later today.
