According to a recent report published by SPORT, Chelsea have confirmed to Barcelona that they will send an offer for Frenkie de Jong in the coming days.
The Dutchman, strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in the past month, is not ready to leave Barcelona. The Red Devils have, however, reached an agreement with Barcelona for a sum amounting to nearly €85 million including add-ons.
They are, unfortunately, not a part of the Champions League, which is a deal breaker for de Jong. Moreover, if reports are to be believed, he does not have a particularly sound relationship with Erik ten Hag and believes United is an ‘erratically’ ran club.
Chelsea, on the other hand, present themselves as a stronger option. Not only are they part of the Champions League, but with one of the best managers at the helm, they are one of the best-coached sides in the world.
That said, it seems unlikely that de Jong will move to either club. He has recently gotten engaged, and has even bought a house in the city. His dream, as a child, was to play for Barcelona, and he will not leave the city after just three years of initially arriving.
The report suggests that as soon as de Jong’s exit is confirmed, Barça will pursue Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, who is expected to cost nearly €90 million. The Catalans have full agreement with the Portuguese, but this soap opera will go on for a while.
