The English Premier League is one of the most competitive club football played by top-tier English teams. As the 2022/2023 season begins, Manchester United take on Brighton in their first Premier League game of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Erik Ten Hag managed his first league game with the club after having a wonderful preseason. Manchester United showed yet another woeful performance in the game, losing by two goals to one at home to Brighton.

The first half of the game was disappointing for the Red Devils as there was no rhythm from the players as seen in their preseason matches. Brighton had 12 shots at goal in the first 45 minutes, showing how awful Manchester United's defense performed. Other than the early Fernandes glaring miss, the hosts created nothing going forward and were punished by a surprisingly ruthless Brighton side in the first 45 minutes.

Manchester United was able to get a consolation goal after an own goal from Mac Allister in the 68th minute. Harry Maguire is once again a problem for Man Utd with his poor defending skills. The Man Utd captain has no positional sense because he doesn't keep an eye on attackers and doesn't have the pace to catch up with them. With such a player on the team, it will be difficult for the Red Devils to get anywhere.

Fred and McTominay are the worst Manchester United players on the pitch today. As long as the two players are driving the midfield, it will be difficult for Man Utd to dominate any game. You can't expect the manager to do miracles when the players are below average. Lisandro Martinez also needs to buckle up to meet the standard of Premier League because he is being pushed around like a toddler.

The quality of players at Manchester United is so low and it is astonishing how some fans think they can do miracles this season. Some of the payers like Maguire, McTominay, and Fred don't even deserve to be on the bench. Erik Ten Hag needs to come up with new tactics that will exclude some players from the team. He needs a strong midfield that will fit into his pattern of play and develop the woefully performing defense.
