In the midst of the recent Harry Maguire to Chelsea rumours, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is the West London club’s top priority centre-back target.

The professional journalist confirms that the Kings Road club will resume negotiations with the Fofana intermediaries next week.

The “unbelievable” French U21 international has reportedly agreed personal terms with Thomas Tuchel’s men.

According to reports, the club could sign the Frenchman for £85 million, after the defender was left out of the Foxes squad for their recent 2-1 home loss to Southampton.

He has excelled during his time with the Foxes, becoming a mainstay of their backline and one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, with Brendan Rodgers stating the French defender is not for sale for the majority of the transfer window.

In March, the French defender signed a new five-year contract with the Midlands club, ensuring that they will demand a sizable fee before selling him.

He was injured for much of last season, but that hasn’t stopped him from being at the top of Chelsea’s summer shopping list following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

Fofana excels in one-on-one situations, where he is exceptionally good at timing his tackles. 

During his time at the King Power Stadium, he has demonstrated exceptional recovery abilities, which would undoubtedly help him replace Antonio Rudiger.

In addition to being an excellent defender, the Leicester defender will be a threat from attacking set pieces.
