3 Key Signings/Areas Chelsea Need To Address In Order To Challenge For Trophies Next Season

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is getting jittery ahead of the 2022/2023 Premier League resumption in about two week time,with the Blues still winless in the two pre-season friendly games they have played so far; a recent 4-0 loss against Arsenal at USA and another 5-3 loss on penalties to Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC.

After their defeat in the early hours of today,the German head coach had admitted that he was not quite ready for the new season coming up in two weeks. In his words," I am far from relaxed,I cannot guarantee that we will be ready in two weeks," via GOAL.

Of course with Chelsea top transfer targets like Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele now ending up in FC Barcelona,the club needs to up their game if they are to avoid future defeats from top clubs when the season starts and begin to strengthen certain positions in the team.

Here are three key areas/positions Thomas Tuchel needs to work on if Chelsea are to challenge for any titles next season;

1. A striker

The fact that Thomas Tuchel himself rejected Cristiano Ronaldo on the grounds that the Portuguese does not "fit his playing system" is quite ridiculous so to say,given the fact that the club badly needs a number 9 to be converting the numerous chances being wasted every game.

Again,the fact that the likes of Christian Pulisic,Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are yet to find their shooting boots should be a cause of concern to Thomas Tuchel who ought to get a quality striker in the ongoing transfer window, Cristiano Ronaldo particularly.

2. A left footed right wing forward

The moment Hakim Ziyech and Reece James run out of creativity,the whole Chelsea attack comes down to zero. Since Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante are all CMs with little or zero midfield creativity,it then becomes imperative that Chelsea gets a left footed right winger to either complement Hakim Ziyech or replace him if he eventually moves to AC Milan.

3. Another center back to complement Kalidou Koulibaly

With Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen already out of Chelsea,and FC Barcelona coming for the duo of Caesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso,it becomes necessary then that Chelsea gets one to two more defenders to partner Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva at the back.

It is not yet certain if Jules Kounde will sign for FC Barcelona or Chelsea,but whichever side he eventually signs for, Chelsea will still need one or two more defenders as the game against Arsenal exposed their defensive shortcomings.

Do you think Chelsea will be able to return to the top with all these signings? Kindly leave a follow and comment below.
