Manchester United need to be pulling out of the seal fro Frenkie de Jong now following the latest update given by Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano reported late on Tuesday night that the two clubs held discussions during the day in which no agreement was reached because Barca were holding out for €86 million and nothing less.
With the move taking longer than many United fans would have wanted, here are a three reasons why the club should pull out of the move.
1. To show class in the transfer market
Every time they have made a marquee signing, they've had to massively pay more than other clubs would - Angel Di Maria in 2014, Paul Pogba in 2016, Romelu Lukaku in 2018 and Harry Maguire in 2020.
In each occasion, United had their bids rejected multiple times before they finally surrendered and paid the asking fee. This has made clubs to exploit Man Utd over the years in the transfer market.
Walking away from de Jong now would send a message that Man Utd have moved on from those years of massively overpaying for players. It would give a clear message that things are changing at Old Trafford.
2. To focus on other targets
It is true that Frenkie de Jong is a priority target for ten Hag but of what use would that be if they end up signing just him?
United are still in pursuit of other players like Chrtian Eriksen, Jurrien Timber, Pau Torres and quite a few others.
Eriksen in particular is a free agent so should not be too difficult in getting him once he agrees to United's offer.
